  • Mark Bleiweis, MD

Mark Bleiweis is the director of the Congenital Heart Center (CHC) at UF Health and the William and Aneice Lassiter Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the UF Gainesville College of Medicine. He is the chief of congenital heart surgery, performing complex operations every day in infants, children, adolescents and adults with congenital and acquired heart diseases.

As director, he is the administrative leader of a multidisciplinary group of experts in surgery, cardiology, anesthesia and critical care medicine. Bleiweis takes pride in assembling and developing a world class team and system of care.

Bleiweis cites George Washington and Dr. Frank Hanley at Stanford as role model and mentor, respectively – both admired for their leadership skills. As a teacher and leader himself, he stresses excellence in his care.

“I have always had a clear vision of what my purpose is, and I was put on this earth to do exactly what I am doing now. My success and our program’s reputation now allow me to reach more patients and help more families,” Bleiweis said. “I strongly believe that we as medical providers should put patient care and patient outcomes above all else – even if it means self-sacrifice.”
